We were trying for a long time and it would not happen, so we were not expecting it at all. We had just had our first wedding anniversary in April and were back in Germany to our regular jobs, after a 3 week vacation, in Canada, Cuba, and Mexico (by the way, we have a travel blog, my husband and I, and an instagram account where we used to share our traveling experiences and infos, travel.together.804, until we found out about the pregnancy and stopped the traveling and kept to ourselves the whole pregnancy).
Anyhow, it was already mid May, and the regular thing, my period would not come, I was about 2 days late, I know, not a lot, but since I was very regular, I started thinking maybe it was possible, I really did not want to get my hopes up on a pregnancy, but it was a thought in the back of my mind, so finally, after a week of "delay", I decided to do a test and to my surprise it came back positive. I was not 100% sure, since it was an old test I had at home, so I ran to my husband and share the news with him. It was nothing special how I told him, I wish I should have prepared something original, but since I was unsure, I was more on the side of "close your eyes, I have a surprise" kind of thing. Right after I showed him, we went on to buy more pregnancy tests to confirm. So, I did another one that same night and one first thing in the morning. I was about 4/5 weeks at the time.
After that, I went for a blood test, to have the full confirmation; and, then I was on the look for a ObGyn. As we move to Germany, I did not have a doctor yet, so that was an important thing to do. I had the first appointment at around 10 weeks, as introduction to my new doctor and information; and the first official pregnancy check-up at 12 weeks. We were on the go, for baby preparation!!! Of course, my husband and I, could not be more happy and excited to have reach this new milestone in our life together.
By the way, in Germany, pregnancy is a huge thing on regards of all what you have to do and prepare, so I had to do quite some reading, as on what the next steps where with my pregnancy, revisions, tests, etc.
I will explain that in another post, all about the experience of being pregnant in Germany. What I believe is a positive thing and what, to my experience, is not so good.
Thanks for reading... please leave any comments or questions you have!
